Tubal
ligation is considered to be a permanent method of
female sterilization, and most women who undergo
tubal ligation are told that it is irreversible.
Tubal ligation reversal is repairing tied or blocked
fallopian tubes to restore fertility after a tubal
ligation. Tubal ligation reversal is an excellent
treatment for most women wanting to become pregnant
again after having their tubes tied. Tubal reversal
enables women to conceive naturally, and without
having to take fertility medications.
Several factors dictate success after a tubal
ligation reversal procedure. How the initial
sterilization was accomplished and the remaining
tubal length are fundamental to counseling patients
on outcome. The probability of becoming pregnant
after reversal of sterilization by Falope rings or
clips appears to be higher than that achieved after
reversal after cautery or the Pomeroy technique. The
mean time to conception was 5.5 months after the
procedure. The likelihood of pregnancy after tubal
reversal versus other interventions should be
discussed with the patient before formulating a
treatment plan.
Our follow-up statistics show that tubal reversal
has a comparable pregnancy rate, birth rate, and
sometimes a lower adverse pregnancy rate than IVF in
patients without additional infertility factors
(i.e., sperm factor, egg factor). The pregnancy rate
varies by type of tubal ligation performed, length
and health of the remaining fallopian tube segments,
age, and other factors. Outpatient microsurgery
techniques that minimize tubal reversal cost,
discomfort, and recovery time. This is better for
patients than the 2 to 5 day hospital stay and 4 to
6 week recovery period after the traditional
approach to tubal surgery.
This procedure takes one hour and has low cost,
quick recovery, and a high pregnancy rate. These
surgical and anesthetic techniques minimize tissue
trauma, bleeding, post-operative pain, and result in
rapid patient recovery after the tubal ligation
reversal. Most patients return to their hotel or
home within hours after their tubal reversal. This
is better for patients than the standard approach to
tubal ligation reversal that results in
hospitalization for several days, a recovery period
of four to six weeks, and unnecessary hospital
costs.
The success rate for reopening
the tubes is over 90 percent, and a majority of
patients become pregnant by one year after the
procedure. Please
